The Future develops in the dark
“Change is inevitable. Growth is a choice, ”said Liz Cunningham at the JuicEQ workshop in Durban, June 2014.
Truer words were never spoken!
Big change is stressful, no doubt about it.
agonizing over the change, then
seeking the right guidance and assistance to turn ‘change’ (ugh) into a positive Adventure.
The 7th juice! skill, ‘ Release’, acknowledges the transitional period in going from one action to another. In the big picture of Life, this is the stage where you’re at ‘loose ends’ till you ‘get it together’ again.
The gaps of time between making a decision, acting on a decision and manifesting a decision can seem unnaturally long.
Yet the blip of ‘nothing on the screen’ is a natural phenomenon.
Once a month in the sky, after the last quarter moon, there’s a 12-hour period where there’s no moon in the sky. Astrologers call this time the “new moon”, though really it’s “no moon”. After 12 hours of ‘sweet darkness’, the sliver of crescent moon shows up in the sky.
In regards to lifetime cycles, the same new-moon period is evident but on a much larger scale. As we move from one phase to another, there is always a period of unknown, often accompanied by an unfamiliar quiet.
Finally, after what feels like an eternity, a new image or vision begins to appear. The future, recognising our intentions. was developing in the dark.
A friend/mentor, Helena Dodds, had this to say about change:
“Always at the end is the scary step that has to be taken to complete the process. When you take it, life will never be the same again and if you don’t, life simply goes on in the same way.
There is more to courage than this. When you take the scary step, the shift is not only in your life; you change it for countless others. One woman’s act of courage shaped a solution for hundreds of others.”
If you look back on your life I bet you’ll see that changes you’ve made have created a new pathway or choice for others.
A major change in my lifetime was moving to South Africa and launching Nia here. Many people benefitted.
The next evolution was writing juice!
Now I’m committed to and confident in pioneering the idea that emotional intelligence (EQ) is enhanced through kinesthetic skill.
How did I know when it was time for the next adventure?
David Whyte in his poem “Sweet Darkness”
(from A House of Belonging) says:
You must learn one thing….
The world was made to be free in.
Give up all the other worlds
except the one to which you belong.
Sometimes it takes sweet darkness and the sweet confinement of your aloneness
anything or anyone that does not bring you alive
is too small for you.
I see glimmers of Life fulfilling the dreams I’ve worked for…
tremors of the sweet explosion to come.
To all of us…dancing in the dark,
“Don’t quit before the miracle.” (Gillian Anderson, actress)
(****NB: In the Chinese calendar, the beginning of the month is marked by the dark moon (no moon). Eastern religions who follow a lunar calendar, ie: Muslims during Ramadan, can only break their fast when the crescent moon appears. (Eid-Al-Fitr).
